Sadie and The Lord's Prayer

Sadie and Caleb have been learning The Lord's Prayer for Sunday school. Sadie's got it just about down. Hope you like.

Catching Up

It's been a couple of weeks since I've been able to post anything. You know how it is, things are pretty dull for a while and then every other day there's something new. We've been busy celebrating birthdays and Grammie M's recovery, not to mention the photography business has picked up a bit.

So I guess the biggest news for us is that Grammie M finished her chemo and had surgery to remove any final bits of cancer. She came through it all very well and the doctors are fairly confident in saying that the cancer is gone. We're all so thrilled and thankful for all the prayers and support from those around us. With all this, we did manage to get to visit Cousin C a bit over at the hospital. Caleb and Sadie had a blast playing and I think Caleb might be in trouble as these girls start teaming up against him more and more. Pap Pap might also be in trouble. One of the cutest moments was when his girls ran squealing down the hall of the hospital into Pap Pap's arms.

Daddy's (Andy) birthday was over the weekend. I don't know that it was all he hoped for but it was action packed. He ended up taking the kids to the Science Center with some friends from our small group while I had a photo session. Then, that evening it was dinner out with my family, including Jas and Linds and Jackie and Chris. The kids went all day without really much in the way of a nap. Towards the end of dinner, Caleb couldn't keep his eyes open and so I ended up holding him with one arm and finishing my dinner with the other. We had a good time but I have to do better next year- it's the big 3-0 :-)

That's the family news, now for the kids.

Sadie's new prized possession is her sunglasses. They are, of course, pink with Snow White on them. We had to get them last night. It all started with one of her friends at the Science Center who insisted on wearing his sunglasses. Then he wore them to church on Sunday. Then I came across a pair of Caleb's sunglasses and she was done. I made the mistake of mentioning the possibility of going out and finding sunglasses for her...well, that's all Daddy heard for the rest of the evening. So they all ventured out to Target to find some sunglasses for Sadie and she is quite happy with them. I'll have to post a picture of our new movie star.

In other news, she's becoming more interested in the potty and even tried underwear a couple of times but there still haven't been any deposits made yet. I am hopeful though. While wearing underwear last week, she had a bit of an accident and was very upset by it. Daddy took her upstairs to change the wet clothes only to be informed that "dis is diss-custing, Daddy." She's having trouble distinguishing between pooping and tooting but loves to inform us, especially if it means she can post-pone nap time or bedtime. She's also thought up her own little Toot song "I tooted, I tooted, I tooted, I tooted..." you get the idea. Sadie also continues to be very motivated to help her brother master the potty and continues to offer encouragement.

Caleb's getting much better with #1 but still not interested in #2 and as I've read different ideas on potty training, I'm learning that I've done just about everything wrong, so who knows when he'll completely get it.

However, he could very well be reading before he turns four and if you didn't know him, you might be convinced that he can read. I've mentioned before how the kid has an amazing memory and it's helping with learning words. He's learning that the words we say correspond to the words on the page and through that, he's starting to remember the shapes of certain words. In church Sunday, he recognized the word, BIBLE. It's pretty cool to see. So now he's re-reading all his books and pointing to the words as he says them and he goes slow so it really looks like he's reading. I'm thinking I need to video this to show it.

On top of this- he's really interested in math. Andy's started playing little games of adding and subtracting and he totally gets it. Caleb was talking about having 3 books for storytime and Sadie had 1 so Andy told Caleb to go pick out a book. Caleb said "no, Daddy, I need 2 books for 3 stories."

Other little funnies
  • Caleb discovered he has 5 fingers on both hands. I know that doesn't sound impressive but it was so funny to hear him work this out. "1,2,3,4,5! Hey, I have 5 fingers" a few minutes later "Hey, there's fingers on this hand too"
  • Sadie's practicing her ringmaster skills. Every so often we hear a little voice call out "Ladies and Genklemen, presenting...." At the dinner table, she stands up in her seat for more of an effect.
  • Sadie has started to practice undressing. I love that she's trying to be "grown-up" and more independent but she mostly does this with her pajamas and either first thing in the morning or after she's been put to bed. The other morning, I woke up to a naked little girl standing next to my bed, bouncing up and down and holding her pjs. "Mommy, I need some help with my penguins" (they were penguin pjs). The next night it was after bed time and we heard her at the top of the stairs. I went up to check and she had managed to squeaze out the neck and was bare down to her belly where I'm guessing the pjs couldn't make it over the diaper. We're not sure why she's doing it but she does it once and then goes to bed.
I'm sure there's more but that's all I can think of for now.
God Bless
